Why?
The current lockdown restrictions due to the Corona Virus pandemic are effecting everyone in many different ways. The government recognizes the importance of daily excercise for both your physical AND mental wellbeing, and as such allows you to leave your home once a day to walk, run or cycle alone or with members of your household.
*edit* easing of restrictions allows us to excercise freely.
Anyone who regularly rides a bike will testify that cycling is the perfect way to keep your body & mind in shape*
It is to encourage these physical, but mainly mental health benefits that I have put together this mini-series of suggested rides for people to take part in**. These are all to be done solo, whilst doing your daily excercise. These rides are all based around Strava segments. After they have been completed the riders can use the social fitness tracking app to compare their stats with others & 'chat' about how they did!
Just because we are distanced, we can still be social!
What is it ? -
A series of solo rides ridden over a different specified Strava Segment. Strava takes care of the data, you just ride your bike!
When / Where is it ? -
The schedule is published below & will be on the Strava Club https://www.strava.com/clubs/propel-lockdown. You just need to ride the specified segment (course) on the specified day.
How ? -
- Ride the specified course on the specified day & upload it to Strava when you get home!
- Road bikes (and setup) only - No tri-bars, pointy hats or 'disc' wheels.
- No Drafting (obviously) - In fact, if you come up behind anyone else, back right off - this is just a bit of fun! Practice the governments advice on social distancing and keep a minimum of two metres apart from anyone we meet, stopping and waiting for people to pass when necessary. Remember the whole reason we are having to ride solo!
- DON'T BE A DICK!
What else -
Stay safe! #rideresponsibly
*British Cycling guidance on riding responsibly can be found here.
**All rides are carried out entirely at the riders own risk
